In a patient with suspected autoimmune adrenalitis, evidence for other organ involvement should be sought; thus, tests to determine the presence of thyroid, gastric parietal cell, and intrinsic factor antibodies should be carried out, in addition to tests for antibodies directed against adrenal tissue. Recent results have shown that measurement of adrenal antibodies by radioimmunoassay is more sensitive than measurement by the usual method using immunofluorescence.
